British Psychological Society rubbishes DSM-5, backs Miller
A very astute criticism of American psychiatry. The British express issues with the DSM-5's lack on consideration of social factors in mental illness. They also have reservations regarding the American psychiatry model which uses the population as a baseline for determining what is mental illness and what is not. For example, in the post-apocalyptic movie I Am Legend where Will Smith is one of the few humans left in a world of "vampires", their new DSM-6 would considered Smith to have a profound psychiatric problem due to his revulsion against eating live humans. So the vampires swarming around Smith's compound are actually on a mission of psychiatric intervention for Smith's own good!
