Under attack!

Aaaargh, not good! Next door neighbor is working on a truck and continually racing his engine and banging on stuff which is totally messing with my sensory overload. Our emotionally based mid-brain first picks up threats doing a crude high speed first analysis of sensory input allowing us to react with lightning quickness. Our cerebral neocortex, the modern thinking brain that makes us uniquely human has inhibitory neurons that run back into the mid-brain and basically can shut down the emergency signal. This is the mechanism by which we overcome fear and bad memories. When those nerves no longer work we no longer have the capacity to overcome fear of something. I believe that my mid-brain is so activated at the moment that the inhibitory signals are being drowned out. So emotionally I perceive loud noises as being equivalent to being physically attacked. I desperately need a safe place to hide from sensory overload and when that is even invaded I go ballistic. I went out to talk to the guy, but he was done for the moment making noise so I just chilled out and let it being. Still I worry I could get real scary real fast in a confrontation. This is why I am hiding in my apartment.
